From Ghana to New Orleans, Brazil to the Bronx, Puerto Rico to Memphis, the experience digs deep in the crates to uncover the musical connections between blues, boogie, Afro rhythms, rock 'n soul, dub, and boom bap—tracing how rhythms, sounds, and ideas traveled across oceans, borders, and generations. Rooted in Accra, Born In Black brings those lineages home through a week of music, storytelling, and cultural exchange celebrating the interconnected sounds that shaped Black music around the world.

Rio de Janeiro
Samba Breaks at (TBD)
Samba Breaks is an Open Crates performance and recording series presented as a quarterly residency in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The experience moves from the crates to the stage—beginning with a curated journey through samba, Brazilian disco, funk, and hip-hop before transforming those influences into an original live set built from samba drums, breaks, samples, and lyrical fragments reconstructed through the language of boom bap. Each performance becomes a recording in its own right, released through the Open Crates label—connecting Rio to the Bronx through the shared musical pulse of the African diaspora.
